The EDGE has been launched at Coundon Court

This program will give our students the opportunity to develop and accredit the life skills and attributes that school, college, universities, apprenticeships and employers are looking for –

The EDGE qualification will develop alongside their academic successes and recognise what students can do as well as what they know.

Edge StudentsIn order to gain the qualification at Apprentice. Graduate or Masters Level, students need to complete a range of different challenges These can be undertaken in lessons, in extra-curricular clubs or outside of school, through the many different activities students are involved in.

In 8E, both Candice Barrowman and Shivam Chhaya have shown they have the THE EDGE by deciding on activities to support their LORIC attributes. Shivam has chosen Organisation by being the Pastoral Class Manager for 8E and helping to check uniform and equipment on a daily basis. Candice has chosen Communication by deciding to create and produce a postcard to help Year 6 students with the transition into Year 7.

Both students have made a really positive start to achieving the EDGE Apprentice award during Year 8 so that they can move onto the Graduate Level in KS4.

Students have been given their log in details and many are starting to decide on the activities they will complete to show that they have THE EDGE. Progress on the scheme is managed by the students using the on-line application, www.theedge.pixl.org.uk - please ask your child to show you their EDGE Profile.

Tutors, subject teachers and our EDGE coordinators will be encouraging students to challenge themselves and will be awarding credits towards the qualification when activities are completed and evaluated by the students themselves - we look forward to recognising student achievements in our weekly assemblies.

Alisha and SkyeWe believe that THE EDGE provides a real opportunity for students here at Coundon Court to stand out from the crowd as they apply to colleges, universities and for positions of employment.

After the launch of THE EDGE at Coundon Court at the start of the Spring Term, many students are now busy working on their LORIC attributes by choosing activities to complete. The scheme is intended over time, to develop and accredit the life skills that, schools, colleges and employers are telling us that students need – LEADERSHIP, ORGANISATION, INITIATIVE, RESILIANCE and COMMUNICATION.

In order to gain the qualification at APPRENTICE, GRADUATE or MASTERS level, students have been completing a range of activities from THE EDGE approved list. The activities are all very different and can be completed in lessons, extracurricular clubs or a range of activities outside of school. Students are encouraged to be proactive and independent and we have a large group of students in KS3 and 4 who have made an excellent start to the APPRENTICE level EDGE qualification.

We have two students who have very nearly completed all 10 of the LORIC activities and will be the very first students at Coundon Court to complete the EDGE APPRENTICE level programme. Alisha Jamieson in Year 7 and Skye James in Year 8 have chosen all 10 of their activities and Natalie Hack our School EDGE Coordinator has been able to verify the work both girls have completed.
