About the subject

If you love music, this is the course for you. You can perform, compose and listen to a wide variety of music and can even tailor the course to suit your individual strengths as a musician! From rock and pop, through the classical symphony to musical theatre and jazz, the listening element of the course really does have something for everyone!

Entry Requirements

Students must have achieved a minimum of Grade 5 at GCSE Music or equivalent. A minimum standard of Grade 4 on their chosen instrument is desired.

The Development of the Symphony

Year 13 Topics

Performing on your chosen instrument/voice
Composing music
Optional units from a selection of Rock and Pop, Musical Theatre and Jazz Music

Exams

Component 1: Performing Music (25% or 35%) - A live performance of a selection of pieces on your chosen instrument(s) or voice to a visiting examiner.
Component 2: Composing Music (25% or 35%) - Two or three compositions produced which reflect different genres and periods of music.
Component 3: Appraising Music (40%) - A written examination on the musical styles and genres studied throughout the course.
