Houses

Coundon Court introduced a brand new House System for the 2022/23 academic year. As part of the Student Voice initiative, staff and students voted for the theme and names of the new houses to be based on Coventry’s rich, industrial heritage past.

The 6 houses are Jaguar, Singer, Dunlop, Massey, Rotherhams and Courtauld. Each with their own individual identities, the houses are spread vertically throughout the year groups. In Key Stage 3 and 4, two tutor groups per year group belong to the same house. This gives opportunity for students to meet, identify and belong to a larger ‘team’ of mixed age-range students other than those of their year group.

Tutor activities and whole school assemblies introduced the history behind the renowned Coventry companies, how their individual core values align with Coundon Court's focus on 'Hard Work, Kindness and Respect' and how being part of a house can benefit the students. Many parents and families have a connection with the house names as we try to provide our students with an additional identity within school and an added sense of belonging through competition, sport and teamwork!

A whole school competition launched in tutor time earlier in the year tasked students with the challenge of designing a new, modern logo for their Coundon House. We were amazed with the amount of high-quality entries received and winners were chosen by Head Teacher Mr Heal, Student Voice Lead Mr Ellicock and Art technician Ms Jackson. A £50 Amazon voucher was presented to our 6 winners whose logos received the honour of being fully digitalised by professional designers!

Regular inter-house sports tournaments as well as faculty, tutor and extra-curricular challenges create a series of competitions which run throughout the year and contribute to the House League. All types of successes are recognised here. The House League also celebrates attainment, attendance and behaviour. It is regularly updated for all to see and after battling it out, the winning house at the end of the year receive a reward and our coveted House Trophy!
