UCAS & Careers

While we work to ensure our students have a great time at Coundon Court Sixth Form, we are keenly aware that Sixth Form is a transition to the future and all of the exciting opportunities it contains. Our students receive careers advice and guidance as part of their tutor time program and Study Skills, including visits from a wide range of careers providers and independent guidance.

Our students are also required to complete enrichment as part of their Sixth Form study, this is voluntary work to build up their skills and experiences in professional environments. Year 12 students complete 30 hours, while Year 13 students complete 20 hours. Enrichment is vital for students to gain a greater understanding of the workplace, build transferable skills and gain experiences that will help them with their applications in the future and develop as a ‘whole person’. We have large numbers of students who complete enrichments with us in school, acting as English and Maths tutors, classroom assistants and EAL mentors, all of which we provide training for. Other students complete enrichment outside of school, form volunteering with charities and family businesses to completing Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs).

Year 12 students complete a week’s worth of work experience in the Autumn term as part of the statutory 16-19 Study Programme. Students will receive support, advice and guidance from their tutors and learning mentors to apply for and secure placements. Our students routinely secure outstanding placements that give them excellent opportunities to develop their skills and competencies, some of which even lead to paid employment!

Finally, we support all students in their applications for post-18, including UCAS. All students will be guided throughout the process of completing a UCAS applications, from selecting university choices to writing personal statements. We are very proud of our track record for university applications, with over 90% of our 20-22 cohort who applied to university getting their first choice. We have also had a large number of students obtain places at some of the most competitive courses/universities in the country, including Red Brick universities and event Oxford and Cambridge! We also recognise that university is not for everyone and students are fully supported in applications for other routes post-18, including Higher Apprenticeships.
