Current and Upcoming Trips and Visits: Coundon Court Sixth Form Library had a visit from an undergraduate student attending Harvard University who came to speak with our students about the process of applying to American universities. Our Year 12 Early Entry Group of students will be visiting Oxford University later this term. Psychology students attended a visit to Warwick University on 17th January. On Friday 24th January Miss Perry organised for a visitor from the Crime Analysis Unit from the Home Office to speak to Criminology students. On 25th February, Miss Perry organised a guest speaker to come to Coundon to speak with Criminology students. The talk will be on Criminal Profiling and led by Professor Craig Jackson, a lecturer at Birmingham City University. Other humanities subjects will also be invited to attend. |

Current and upcoming trips and visits: Medicine Trip: On Thursday 13th March 10 of our Year 12 students visited University Hospital Coventry and Warwick (UHCW) for the day in order to gain practical skills in suturing, dexterity, identifying various parts of the anatomy and building teamwork skills. Over 100 medical students from across the city took part in the practical experience day. The following students attended the trip: Ambreen, Priyanka, Lily, Corey, Jenna, Jasmine, Dima, Mustafa, Aleena, Sokaina, Priscilla and Shanae with Mr Ferris gained a range of practical skills as well as key information on applying for medicine through UCAS. Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award – Practice Expedition The following Year 12 students enjoyed taking part in their practice expedition for Duke of Edinburgh on Wednesday 19th March: Siddant Naique, Mohammad Ahmadyar, Joshua Akhtar, Pavnick Bains, Ami Bines, Lily Bolton, Libby Breadmore, Megan Brown, Penny Chapman, Jenna Fletcher, Jenna Harris, Charlie Hooks, Jananey Kenthesuvran, Dmilare Lawal, Isobel Lord, Amber McBriety, Amber Nain, Kiran Osborne, Jasmine Patel, Dhruv Rajput, Dima Ramazan, Harleen Randhawa, Molly Rowley, Agamjot Singh, Zachery Tamne-Hinson, Mustafa Torabi, Jeny Vigneswaran, Priyanka Virdee, Emily Wood. At the end of the talk, a group of students stayed after the assembly to build contacts and requested LinkedIn details to help them further their connections. Students will have the opportunity to further explore routes into apprenticeships and university study during tutor time this week. The practice expedition took place at Berkswell. Students are preparing for their upcoming 3 day expedition at the end of the year. Year 12 - Finance week - Bank of England Talk: Year 12 had an external speaker in to visit for finance week on Wednesday 26th March. We were lucky to be visited by a representative from the Bank of England to discuss the finance industry as well as careers in accounting and finance. Many of our students are interested in studying this topic after they finish their sixth form studies. At the end of the talk, a group of students stayed after the assembly to build contacts and requested LinkedIn details to help them further their connections. Ask Apprenticeships:
On Wednesday 7th May students were visited by ASK Apprenticeships. ASK provides students with a range of resources and information regarding different levels of apprenticeships, the application process and the amount of opportunities available to them. All students attended this session with an external visitor and several stayed behind to ask questions which support their career paths.
Why Higher Education? Coventry University Talk. On Wednesday 21st May all of Year 12 were visited by Coventry University to discuss higher education opportunities. The talk included: information about applying for university, salaries at university compared to salaries with no degrees and what opportunities students will gain such as societies.

Careers opportunities: On Tuesday 24th June, Coundon students were invited to Bablake school to join their Sixth Formers for an evening of apprenticeship information. Year 10 and Year 12 Careers Interviews - Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th June:
On Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th June, 11 interviewers from different industries arrived at Coundon Court for the day to interview our Year 10 and Year 12 students. These mock interviews provide a vital role in preparing students for interviews outside of school. Additionally, we received exceptional feedback about the respectful, confident and approachable nature of the students being interviewed. We are incredibly proud of this feedback and the positive feedback we received from students about the interview process and what a valuable experience this was.

Law trip - Tuesday 8th July
On Tuesday 8th July a small group of year 12 students took up the opportunity to visit Squire Paton Boggs, a global law firm, in Birmingham city centre. It gave students the chance to explore careers in the legal field through networking sessions, and talks from employees, ranging from Apprentices to Partners.

On Tuesday 24th June our Year 12 students visited the UCAS Convention at the Birmingham NEC. The aim of the UCAS Discovery event was for students to:
English Literature trip - Warwick Uni - Monday 23rd June:
On Monday 23rd June 18 of our English Literature students attended a lecture at Warwick Uni on their core text: Othello. The lecturer spoke about different forms of tragedy and how they can be used in different texts. Additionally students had the opportunity to visit and look around the Faculty of Arts Building - inspiring future Warwick University and arts students.
History trip - Coventry Cathedral - Monday 23rd June:
On Monday 23rd June Miss O'Malley and Miss Crabtree took Y12 history students to Coventry Cathedral for a workshop by the Company Generation 2. Students discussed the history of the holocaust and showed enthusiasm and respect to the company leader. Students were confident in asking questions and sharing ideas. The Year 12 Language and Literature cohort went to Warwick University on Wednesday 11th June to participate in a lecture led by Dr Michael Meeuwis on ‘Forms of Tolerance’ in their A-level text, ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. We also had time to explore the impressive Faculty of Arts building and other areas of the campus, speak with existing students about their university experiences and sample an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.

The trip to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire was a fantastic opportunity for us to watch three unique devised performances which have since inspired our own creativity for our upcoming devised unit. The three individual pieces of theatre focused on socio-political themes which addressed taboo ideas within society. The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire festival was a great opportunity for us to have the time and space to think critically on important topics within society.

Year 12 History Trip - Coventry Cathedral
On Monday 23rd June history students visited Coventry Cathedral to take part in a workshop for the afternoon to discuss the history of the Holocaust.
Here are the photos from yesterday's trip with the year 12 history groups. They took part in a workshop by the company generation 2 generation discussing the history of the holocaust. They were exemplary, showed enthusiasm and respect to the company leader and were even having discussions with the leader after the presentation. Myself and Jemma were very impressed. It was an interesting and insightful trip allowing students to gain a comprehensive understanding of life within a global law firm.
Medical Trip – Friday 11th July
On Friday 11th July 150 students from Year 10 and Year 12 attended a trip to Coventry University to understand more about careers in the NHS. Students were able to attend a variety of workshops of their choice linked to their chosen career paths.
Students experienced a range of expert knowledge throughout the day and took away some valuable insights into a variety of healthcare professions.
Thursday 10th July – London Rewards trip
On Thursday 10th July, 46 of our Sixth Form students attended a reward trip to London. Students were given the freedom to plan and navigate their day with groups of their choice.
Students enjoyed a range of activities from visiting museums, shopping and sightseeing the best of what London has to offer.
For some students this was their first experience of London and how to navigate their way on the London tubes. We are proud of their conduct and punctuality throughout the day and look forward to future rewards trips with these students.
